All 68 Preliminary Round winners and finalists will be invited to attend ‘Celebrate the Sea Imagery Festival’ in Kuala Lumpur 29 July to 1 August to compete in the Premier round. The Overall Winner of Preliminary will be named as ‘Celebrate the Sea 2004’ Ambassador for Sharks and his/her painting will be printed into a limited edition poster to promote conservation of sharks in South East Asia. The top ten finalists of the preliminary round will also be invited to paint a wall-sized canvas together with WYLAND – the world’s most celebrated artist of the sea. The 2004 Children’s Painting Competition is part of OceanNEnvironment’s public awareness campaign to promote conservation of sharks and the beauty of our seas. This competition promotes the artistic talents of children in countries of the Asia-Pacific encouraging them to show us their perspective of conservation and the ocean environment through their works of art. The competition is open to children and young people from the Asia-Pacific countries. Our vision is for children’s paintings in the Celebrate the Sea competition to send a simple but powerful message: children from the Asia Pacific are joining hands to help protect sharks and they are enjoying the beauty of our seas. We look forward to seeing their raw talent, ingenuity and imagination and their contribution to solving the problems our ocean world. Any children from 5 to 15 years old may enter the Preliminary round. School teams are encouraged to participate. There will be 68 finalists; the top ten winners will each receive $US 100 book voucher plus a special card bound edition of “Celebrate the Sea” by Michael AW and Stephen Wong. 10 Finalists from school teams will win for their school library a set of Michael AW’s Marine Awareness books plus one year subscriptions to Asian Geographic and Scuba Diver magazines. The grand prize, the winner will be named ‘Children’s Artist of the Sea 2004 – and will receive the challenge trophy plus $1000 RM education fund. This competition is primarily sponsored by OceanNEnvironment Australia and Asian Geographic Magazines.
HOW TO ENTER the Preliminary ROUND Closing Date: 18 June 2004 1) Do a painting or a drawing using the theme – ‘Say No to Shark Fins’. Let your imagination go but you may include Sassy Sharks in your drawing or painting. 2) Your submission must be A4 (297mm x 210mm) in Portrait orientation 3) Send your entry by post to: PO BOX 2138, Carlingford Court PO, NSW 2118, Australia or by courier to 2a Cary Street, Baulkham Hills, NSW 2153 Australia ENTRIES must reach us by 18 June 2004 Or 36, Jalan Puteh Jerneh, Singapore 278058 by 12 June 2004 4) Please include the following details in your submission: Name of participant: Age: Name of Mother or Father, submitted by:Address, Telephone, *email – must have email contact. 5. All entries will receive acknowledgement of receipt by email only. 7. Judging is on 1 July 2004 - The entries will be split into two age groups: Age 5 to 9 and Age 10 to 15. The entires will be judged and awarded for each age group respectively. Preliminary Round Winners will be announced on 10 July by email. ON 31 July and 1 Aug the finalists will be required to do a painting on site at the National Science Museum. Selected entries from the Preliminary round and Premiere round may be reproduced on posters, calendars, publications, front cover of Asian Geographic, Scuba Diver etc. to promote action worldwide. The winning entries will also be displayed at the world underwater festival in Antibes, France 2004.
